

He is survived by his son and caregiver, Jerry Standifer (Mary); brother, Clyde Dickens (Karen); son, Bobby Dickens (Sharon); cherished grandchildren, Leslie Blaine Roscoe, C. Jeff Blaine; great grandchildren, Derek Turner, Stephanie Turner, Sophia Blaine and Blake Turner and great great granddaughter, Charlotte Turner. Bill is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Alma Cox Dickens, sons Billy and Jimmy and daughter, Cathy.
Bill graduated from Palm Beach High School, and then served a five year plumbing apprenticeship. He joined the Navy and served aboard the Navy Ship “Montepelier” during WWII from 1944 to 1946. He served in the Solomons, Mariannas, Philippines and Japan. Bill was a master plumber and pipefitter. He owned Dickens Plumbing and worked several years in Alaska on the Alaska Pipeline.
Bill was a member of the First Baptist Church of Palmetto. He was an avid collector of coins, arrowheads and anything Florida Gator related. Bill was the happiest when he is surrounded by family and friends.
A Visitation will be held from 6 PM until 8 PM today, Oct. 24, 2017 at Palms-Robarts Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11 AM on Wed. Oct. 25, 2017 with military honors at Palms-Robarts Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 170 Honore Ave., Sarasota, FL 34232.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill’s honor to Angels of the Amazon, 10305 Riverburn Dr., Tampa, FL 33647.
