
Arrel Dean Woods, age 90, of Tempe, Arizona passed away on Monday, December 25, 2023. He was born on June 13, 1933 in Newton Kansas to Leonard and Nora Woods. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He served in the Army Airborne Division until he was discharged in 1955. He moved to Wichita, Kansas where he started working at the Eagle Newspaper. In 1980 he moved his family to Tempe, Arizona where he started working for the Arizona Republic. He retired from the Arizona Republic in 1994.
He had several hobbies but the most popular one that he was famous for was making his peanut brittle.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Janet, his son Leonard, his mom and all his siblings.
He is survived by his daughter Joyce, son in law Matt of Tempe, Grandson Christopher, wife Kori and 3 great grandsons, Alexander, Cooper and Grayson of Mesa, his granddaughter Alexis of Tempe.
He spent the last 10 months of his life in his daughter's home, reading Tarzan books, watching his favorite TV shows and playing games and chess with his great grandsons under a heated blanket.
A funeral service and army funeral honors for Arrel will be held Saturday, January 6, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Green Acres Mortuary & Cemetery, 401 North Hayden Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85257.
