

In Flagstaff, CJ and his wife, Dorothy, put radio station KCLS on the air in 1950. They owned and operated radio stations in Idaho Falls, ID through the 1980's.
In 1958 CJ was elected the last full capacity Mayor of Flagstaff. He was deeply involved in Flagstaff & Northern AZ, being instrumental in the integration of Flagstaff, mounting a successful campaign to locate Page on the AZ side of the dam, serving the Navajo people to provide communication to the reservation and making Sunday the Lord’s day for programming. He worked hard for education, conservation and to promote patriotism.
Charles served 60 plus years as a Mason, Shriner, and an Elk. In Scottsdale he was also a member of Figowi, the Mags Ham Bun Bunch, Rotary International, the Joe Foss Foundation, Civil War Roundtable, and a member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Scottsdale.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, and his son, Kirk. He is survived by daughter Cheryl Brown, son-in-law Ken Brown, son Charles, Jr. “Buzz,” granddaughter Angel and two great grandchildren.
