

She was the second child born to the late Robert M. Young and Birg Lee Amos Young. She was preceded in death by her sister, Wardell E. Willis, and brother, Ravis Lloyd Young. Her devoted and loving husband of 59 years, Dr. George M. Greene preceded her in death on May 21, 2013.
During her formative years, Mrs. Greene received her high school diploma from Gibbons High School in Paris, Texas. She enrolled at National Business College, Nashville, Tennessee, where she earned her Associate of Arts Degree. In 1953, she met and married her life partner, Dr. George Greene, while employed as a Secretary to the Registrar at Mississippi Valley State University.
The couple relocated to Phoenix, Arizona in 1956 where she subsequently earned a B.S. Degree from Arizona State University, graduating with distinction, and later earned the M.A. Degree from Arizona State University.
Throughout her professional career, Mrs. Greene was dedicated to students. She served as Secretary, Palmdale Elementary School, Roosevelt School District #66; Head Start Teacher at Southminster Presbyterian Church and teacher at Tempe Elementary School District #3. She was honored as an Ambassador for Excellence, Tempe Elementary School District #3, and was nominated for Arizona Teacher of the Year, 1985. Her retirement was in June, 1988.
She was a member of Valley Presbyterian Church and served as an Usher and with the Women’s Mission. For many years, she was also a member of Southminster Presbyterian Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, Church treasurer, Elder, and the Womens’ Guild.
Mrs. Greene was a Golden and Life member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated for 58 years and held various offices and chaired several committees. She was also a Platinum member of The Links, Incorporated– the highest award bestowed upon a member – and served in the Phoenix Chapter of the Links, Incorporated for 43 years serving in various positions.
Mrs. Greene is survived by her son George T. Greene (Shawna) of Tempe AZ; three grandchildren – Danielle Greene Miller (Joseph d.o) of Louisville, KY; DeNia Greene, Mesa, AZ; George T. Greene II, Portland, OR; 5 Great grandchildren Marcus Anderson Greene Sumerlin, Mesa, AZ; Anya Alexsandra Mudd, Eliza Monet Mudd, James Miller, Eliot Miller, Louisville KY; Brother in-law Hayward (Dr. Gwenda Greene); Johnny (Ophelia Greene) All of Columbia, SC., God children Alan Cody Williams, Constable (Ret) (Jeri, Police Chief (Ret) Phoenix AZ; Marlena Vincent (Kenneth); Elisa Harrison; Matthew Pitts and Grant Harrison Johnson.

A Celebration of Life service for Mrs. Greene will be held Monday, March 4, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Valley Presbyterian Church, 6947 E McDonald Dr, Paradise Valley, AZ 85253. Following the funeral service will be a graveside service at 3:00 PM at Green Acres Mortuary & Cemetery, 401 North Hayden Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85257.
