He was born in Houma, Louisiana on August 1, 1967. Derek later graduated from Burlington Township High School and Fork Union Military Academy before attending Norfolk State University in Virginia.
Derek worked in both construction and counseling in the Phoenix, Arizona area where he lived for many years. He had a passion for football, basketball, and track and competed in all three sports in high school and college.
He is survived by his daughters: Asya, Breanna, and Serinity; his son: Prince; his grandchildren: Prince Jr., Damonte, and Derion; his mother: Bernita Stringfellow; his step-father: Darryl Stringfellow; and his siblings: Carla, Vaughn, and Turquoise.
A visitation at 12:00 PM and a funeral service at 1:00 PM for Derek will be held on Monday, August 28, 2023 at Green Acres Mortuary & Cemetery, 401 North Hayden Road, Scottsdale, Arizona 85257.
