

90, of Phoenix passed away on May 2, 2012. She was born June 10, 1921 in Lemmon, South Dakota. At 6 months of age her family traveled by conestoga covered wagon to Bonsteel, South Dakota. Her mother, Treasia, was driving the wagon and her dad, Lee, tended a hundred head of sheep. This was the beginning of life for Doris Marlowe. She attended many schools in her life and graduated second in her class from Polytechnic High School in Los Angeles, Calif. in 1939. She married Earle Marlowe in 1942. World War II came and she entered the Navy Waves in 1943 as a seaman second class/radio code operator. After the war they moved to Phoenix and started a wonderful life together. They were blessed with two sons who survive her, Britton L. Marlowe, San Antonio, Texas and Clayton K. Marlowe (Rosanna), Mesa, AZ. She was a great little league fan and Cub Scout mother for her sons. Doris was a singer, dancer, poet, and owner of the original German-Bavarian Restaurant in Arizona, “THE HACKAMORE INN” on East McDowell Rd. for many years. She was also a radio announcer at KRIZ Radio and an executive secretary at Airesearch for the purchasing department, retiring from there in 1986. Her poem’s have been published in “WHO’S WHO IN POETRY” and she has received many awards over the years through The International Poets Society. Doris is also survived by her granddaughters, Jessica (Dan) Mastbergen, Michelle (Victor) Houze, Meaghan Marlowe and great granddaughters Jordyn Olivas and Sage Elizabeth Mastbergen, born just 2 weeks ago. Her motto was keep a smile on your lips and a song in your heart.
Memorial services were held on Friday, May 11, 2012, 9:30 AM, Green Acres Mortuary, 401 N. Hayden Rd., Scottsdale, AZ. The family suggests memorials to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
