Joe was born in Anthony, New Mexico on December 19, 1947 and was married to Dominga Cortez Murillo on June 17, 1969, in the beautiful city of Panama, Republica de Panama. He worked in the military fire department as a paramedic/EMT and retired after serving 26 years as an E6 Master Sergeant for the U.S Air Force. Joe enjoyed golfing, watching FOX News and camping with his family. He was fond of all types of food, particularly, shrimp pizza at his favorite restaurant, Oreganos, enjoying a good glass of wine or eating homemade red enchilada's; however, the only way he would eat them was stacked. On most days, you would likely find Joe playing chess with his brother in-law Milford or spending time with his grandchildren or loving wife.
He is preceded in death by his parents Eduardo M Gastelum and Maria de Jesus Y Gastelum, brothers Manuel Murillo, Guadalupe Murillo and sisters Esperanza Martinez and Martha Valenzuela. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dominga Murillo, his brother Jerry Gastelum of Mesa; his sons Benito, Carlos, Javier, Joe Jr, daughter Christina, 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Joe was a devoted husband and loving father. He was very compassionate, and everybody who met him, loved him. They will remember his laughter and beautiful smile. Joe had a big heart and opened his door to anyone in need. His generosity will live on through the lives he touched.
Memorial Service for Joe will be streamed Friday, August 14 at 11am on Green Acres Mortuary & Cemetery Facebook: www.facebook.com/GreenAcresMortuary/
