He was born to Polish immigrants and was the youngest of seven children (only 5 survived childhood). John had 2 brothers and 2 sisters throughout most of his life. He was drafted into the Army and served his country for 2 years in the Korean war. He was proud to serve. He was stationed in Camp Zama Japan and worked in the commissary. He greatly enjoyed the area and even managed to climb mount Fuji while he was there. When he was discharged from the service he left his small town of Mystic for a job at General Electric in Chicago, Illinois. It was at GE where he met the love of his life - Domenica (aka Sunday), a feisty little Italian girl. It didn't take long before they were married and adopted their first child, John jr. Due to Domenica's health issues they thought a move to the southwest would do her good. So in 1960 they made the move to Arizona and settled in Phoenix.
John's first job in Arizona was as a barber, then he landed a manager position at Honeywell.
It was then they decided to adopt their daughter, Marisa. John was delighted to be a father and husband. He took an early retirement from Honeywell and was able to travel and spend many great years together with Sunday until she passed in 2005. They had been married for 52 years. His heart was broken, but he carried on for his children. John lived next door to his Daughter for 13 years after losing his wife Sunday and was in close contact with his son who lives in San Jose, California. He was never alone. Although traveling became harder in his later years, he still enjoyed visiting San Diego and his son in San Jose.
On Tuesday, November 27th his weakened heart called him back to Sunday's side. He passed peacefully in his sleep. John was a sweet man, he had a big heart, was very sentimental, kind and generous. He couldn't do enough for his children. And if he had grandchildren, there's no question they would have been spoiled! A wonderful husband, father, devoted to those he loved. He will be sorely missed.
