

Kay E. Kuehnhackl, 73, of Cave Creek, AZ passed away Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Hospice of the Valley, Eckstein Center in Scottsdale, Arizona after complications related to ALS disease. A Memorial Service will be held at 5:00 pm on Thursday, November 2nd at Carefree Church in Cave Creek, AZ. Kay was born June 6, 1944 to Doris and Dwight Lord in Dixon, Illinois. Her family moved to McCool Junction, Nebraska, where she resided through her first 2 years of high school. She then moved to Callaway, Nebraska where she was a star volleyball player and graduated class valedictorian in 1962. She then attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where she met and married Preston Schmidt. They had 3 children and found home in Bettendorf, Iowa where they strongly supported their children’s athletic endeavors. On October 17, 1992 Kay married Kurt Kuehnhackl. She helped him run his successful business selling homegrown fruits and vegetables at “Kurt’s Green Acres”. She had worked many years at Star Forms/Bowater Communications, then at Runge Mortuary in Davenport, Iowa. Kay enjoyed baking, gardening, crocheting and traveling. She took great pride in her children and grandchildren. She had a smile and spirit that was infectious. Among everything, Kay had four major gifts: Forgiveness, Eternal Life, The Holy Spirit and Spiritual Gifts. Family left to honor Kay’s memory include her children and spouses, Preston (Sonia) Schmidt of Canyon Lake, CA, Doreen (Rob) Meyncke of Cave Creek, AZ, and Dave (Angie) Schmidt of Bettendorf, IA. Grandchildren, Brayden, Bailey, Madeline, Keegan, Kane, Melissa and Natalie. Her brothers Bob (Lea) Lord of Callaway, NE and Phillip Lord of Broken Bow, NE; Her sister,
