Born in Taiwan, Kun Kuey was the sixth of eight children and grew up in the Nantou countryside. Ever since he was a young boy, he was a devoted Buddhist. A Buddhist Master who came from China recognized his strong intellect, personally teaching him Mandarin during a time when Taiwan was still occupied by Japan. Due to his studiousness, he had opportunities to go to school in Taipei, eventually graduating from the Taipei Police Academy in 1946. In addition to 40 years of service in the police forces, he and his wife, Chu-Yin, were entrepreneurs in every sense of the word, establishing a successful apothecary and bookstore over the years. Their entrepreneurial spirit was instilled in their children, and as a family, they sought additional opportunities by immigrating to Arizona in 1990. Kun Kuey is survived by loving wife Chu-Yin; children Richard (Jane), Christiana (Charlie), and Robert; 11 grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild.
