

Levi “Lee” E. Bontrager, 93, of Scottsdale, Arizona, passed away Monday, April 28, 2014. He was born November 8, 1920, in Shipshewana, Indiana. He was a graduate of Goshen High School, Goshen, Indiana and Phoenix College, Phoenix, Arizona. He was married to Viola I. Bontrager (Rassi) on August 15, 1943 until her death on May 31, 1999. He was formally with the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department. He relocated to the Phoenix Metropolitan area and devoted his professional career to fire protection and fire sprinkler systems. He worked for the City of Scottsdale Fire Prevention Services and became the Deputy State Fire Marshal for the State of Arizona. He was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Police and a Mason.
He is survived by his sons; Stephen Lee and Craig Leslie; sister, Rosa Troyer; brother, Clarence Bontrager; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Green Acres Mortuary and Cemetery, 401 N. Hayden Road, Scottsdale, Arizona, Saturday, May 3, 2014: 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm for viewing and services begin at 2:30 pm. Contributions: Hospice of Arizona, 1132 S. Oakland Avenue, Mesa, Arizona 85206.
