Louis H. Apato, 97 died peacefully August 18, 2014. Born October 22, 1916 in Chicago, IL. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a corporal for 4 years. He worked for the Chicago school board of education for 30 years. He is survived by his wife, Maxine Apato. The two were married October 24, 1976. In 1977 they began their journey in Scottsdale, AZ together, where he began working as a maintenance man for Smitty's Grocery stores (which later became Smith's, then Fry's). He retired this second job in 2002, at the age of 85. Even after his retirement, he always enjoyed working with his hands, doing odd jobs, and fixing things around the house. He was truly a hard worker his entire life. His hobbies also included playing poker, and could still clean everyone at the table out at the age of 97. He was the best friend you could ask for and always made everyone feel welcome. He was a loving husband, compassionate stepfather, and an amazing grandfather.
