Thank you, Patty for the dignified service for your brother, our kind-hearted swimming friend from the South End Rowing Club. Here is a photo from my wedding which Mike attended coming all the way from Moscow to Half Moon Bay February of 1994. He was loved by many.

I saddened to hear the news abpout the passing Michael. I was Mike's Architect in Boston and after working with him we became friends. Ironically later in life my wife Lynne was assigned as his nurse practitioner at Mass General Hospital when he was admitted for a heart condition. I continued to work on his condominium in Boston, we shared an occasional beer and once went to the Wake Up the Earth Festival in Jamaica Plain along with my wife and dog Porkchop who he always asked about because during the construction of his project, Porkchop was always welcome. This was tribute to Michaels true character. A gentle and caring man. I know he will be missed by all who had a chance to meet him. RIP Michael.

It feels awkward putting thoughts about Mike on a page in this book- after all, Mikie knows how much I loved him.   Mike and I met at the South End Rowing Club many swims ago.  He is one of the first people to hold my son after his birth.  Mike and I kept in contact over the years, though the depth of our conversations changed, there was always heart at the core. I appreciate having had the opportunity to know and love this man and will always miss him.  May his legacy live on.

My first meeting with Mike was when we were working on the same Bechtel construction project in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and had survived through the Desert Storm/Shield US military operations. Back then Mike had purchased a Zeos PC laptop computer where he asked me to help him out with some of the basic computer operation. We had travelled to Athens and scuba dived together in Cyprus. Since then we have become close friend where we can laugh together about his bionic heart condition. I admired his spirited energy having biked throughout USA and his numerous SFO-Alcatraz swimming activities. I am deeply sadden to hear his departure from the living and will miss his presence dearly. Roman Franco (Portland, OR)

I was fortunate to meet Mike in early 2012, I wish it had happened years earlier. We shared both the best parts of life and some of the harder ones.
A passion for Politics and the love of the Boston Red Sox. Although Mike was more lenient of their losses than I. 

We were also members of the disabled world. We would debate which of us had the rougher road. And although we never settled that argument, we both knew it was Mike. But he always handled it with grace and dignity. Now I say, rest my friend, and be at peace.

I have known Mike since grade school and we were neighborhood chums. There was always something going on in the hood. We
would explore the fields, ride the humps on our bikes and go plinking with our bb guns, just being kids. We collected and traded stamps together always hoping we would find a golden ticket. He had this idea about a stamp that he thought would be worth big bucks in the future. So we went to the post office and bought an entire sheet of these stamps, it cost a $1.25. I still have that sheet of stamps and it isn't worth much more than $1.25. But that's whom Mike was, looking for adventure and daring to try most anything. I always have admired him for his accomplishments and more recently for his tenacity and spirit. I feel blessed to be able to call him my friend. I wish we could have had more time, 50 years is not quite enough with a man as he.

Mike was a great friend, fellow political progressive and as 
Swim Commissioner, an athletic and cultural leader of our beloved South End Rowing Club in the 1980s here in San Francisco.  His indomitable positive spirit in dealing with various health challenges he faced over the years inspired everyone he met including me as he persevered and lived a full productive, independent and positive life to the very end.
Last year, he was named an Honorary Life member of the South End Rowing Club even though he has lived in Boston for many years.  Our club bestows that honor on very few people but it was clear to everyone who knew Mike that his service to our club, his personal friendship to all here that knew him and his positive personality in his leadership style was an example that inspired many who serve with him as well as those who followed his tenure in various leadership positions in our club.  He is missed but will always be remember with love and respect in our hearts.

Mike has an amazing spirit that will always live on, he warmed the hearts of many with his determination and smile.  He will always have a special place in my heart.

Mike was a fellow swimmer at the South End for several years.  He and I also worked together on some construction projects.  In a club filled with extroverted and garralous guys and gals, his quiet dignity, self effacing sense of humor and soft spoken earnestness endeared him to everyone.  When he spoke we all listened.  Many people come to the club and then leave without leaving much of a mark. No one who knew Mike will ever forget his unique and comforting presence.

Mike will be missed by all of his South End Rowing Club friends. He was an integral part of our swimming community and spent many hours swimming with fellow open water swimmers in the San Francisco Bay. We all shared many happy hours together and his spirit and kindly attitude remains a warm and comforting memory. Rest in Peace Mike, you were truly one of the "good guys".

Mike was a colleague of mine from years ago.  I will remember his as a hard worker, solid individual with a set of convictions.  Bless those that cared for him over the years.

Many of you are just being notified of Mike's passing.  Because he had friends all over the world,  it has been challenging finding names and addresses.  Please pass this information on to anyone you might know that is interested in being a part of our Sea Scattering Service, being held at a later date to be determined (tentatively the end of March) at his beloved South End Rowing Club, Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco.  

Mike endured tremendous health challenges stemmed from a failing heart, complicated with a anoxic brain injury that through countless miracles brought him back in 2002.  His permanent injuries from the accident left him to where he could no longer work, but thankfully live independently in Boston. The countless doctors and health professionals were amazed at his tenacity to endure his many ailments.  My brother never complained about his infirmities and had told me in February of this year,  that even with the brain injury and the multiple organ failure, he had and still had a wonderful life.  Thank all of you who were called his friends for being part of his wonderful and tremendously blessed life.
