Born in Artesian, South Dakota, to Rollie Amos Johnson and Gladys Turner Johnson, M.L. went into the Navy at age 18 and served as a medic. In 1948, he moved to Arizona, where he lived and worked for 78 years. He was an avid golfer until two weeks ago. He was a dedicated member and former Bishop of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Always ready with a smile, M.L. was a man of integrity and good humor. His word was his bond. He was well known and trusted in the Arizona business community. As a banker with First National Bank, he was brilliant at turning around failing branches. At United Bank, against much resistance, he was instrumental in launching the ‘ugly teller’, now known as ATM. Later, M.L. became a successful home builder, maintaining his reputation for being a man of his word.
M.L. will be dearly missed by his wife, Gaye; their 15 children; their many beloved grandchildren; and two surviving brothers, Marvin and Kendahl Johnson.
Memorial services will be held at an LDS ward building at 11 A.M., 4640 East. Holmes Ave, Mesa, 85206. Friends are invited to come early, beginning at 10 A.M., to share time with the family.
For those that wish to send flowers, please send them to Tom Walker's residence, 1785 E Sagebrush St, Gilbert, AZ 85296.
