Surrounded by family, Pollyanna Christopher peacefully transitioned to the hands of God on April 19, 2021, after a decades-long struggle with multiple sclerosis. In her 84 years on earth, Polly touched many with her warm magnetic personality and her seemingly endless capacity to love. Polly was a one-of-a-kind unique spirit - God definitely broke the mold after she was born. Polly came into this world on November 19, 1936, in Springfield, MO as Rosie (Rhodes) and Guy Pollard’s second child and grew up with her brother, Guy Jr., and a large extended family. Ever popular, Polly cultivated a bevy of friends and was crowned “Snow Queen” in her senior year of high school. Polly loved swimming and was honored to be hired as Springfield public pool’s youngest lifeguard at age 14. Shortly after graduation, a serendipitous crossing of paths led Polly to meet the love of her life and future husband, Philip Christopher who lived in Phoenix.
Polly moved to Phoenix after high school to begin nurses training at St. Joseph’s Hospital and to be near her new-found love. They soon married and began a family raising three children, Lynne, Michael and Karen. Polly thoroughly enjoyed motherhood and often said that she grew up with us. This was best exemplified by the fact that the other children in our neighborhood would come to our house to ask if Polly could come out and play. In addition to being one of our playmates, Polly taught many of our friends how to swim in our backyard pool. Growing up in Polly’s household was never dull. There was a constant parade of visitors and activity which led to our house being dubbed “Grand Central”. A very memorable time were the years where Polly and Phil hosted Tuesday night bible study for “hippies that loved the Lord”. These Tuesday night events went on for years and were always well attended.
Apart from family, Polly found great joy in being a wife and mother, spending time with her many friends, helping anyone who needed it, and her close personal relationship with the Lord. Polly was also a skilled florist and loved to create small pieces of art that she called “Polly Doodles”. Polly’s enormous, infectious personality helped her become a successful real estate agent for several years. Anyone who met Polly immediately felt her warmth and enjoyed her sense of humor. You couldn’t help but laugh when you were around Polly. Her easy, home-spun Ozark humor was unforgettable and a joy to be around. Truly, to know Polly was to love her. Polly’s favorite word was “tickled”. Polly was always tickled to see you, or tickled when this or that happened. Polly remained “ever so tickled” even during her difficult final years. It is often said that people are remembered not so much by what they say but how they made you feel. Polly was unique in that she always left you feeling better and left us with a rich legacy of unforgettable quotes referred to as “Pollyisms”.
Polly was preceded in death by her loving husband, Phil, and her brother Guy Jr. from Springfield. Polly is survived by her three children, Lynne, Michael and Karen, her grandchildren Christopher Hasty, Reed Hasty, Andrew Christopher, and Match Christopher.
A memorial service to celebrate the wonderful, loving, giving, humor-filled life of Polly Christopher will be held at Green Acres Mortuary & Cemetery, 401 N Hayden Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85257 on June 11, 2021, at 4 PM.
