Shirley Fay Butler Steele, of Phoenix, AZ passed away, April 30, 2018. She was born on August 13, 1922 in Newark N.J. to Harvey and Charlotte Armstrong Butler. She had 4 siblings two older brothers and a younger sister.
When Shirley was a small child she moved to India to be with her parents who were missionaries there. She spent a good part of her growing up in India. During that time, she helped her parents in the mission field. She went back and forth between there and their home in the United States. Even as an adult when she came home for good she still helped her dad and others with mission work in India. She never really left the mission field and wherever she was she would be telling others about Christ. She loved to sing and often you would realize she was singing in an Indian dialect. She was a great story teller and was always ready with a story or two.
Shirley never married until she took the plunge in 1994 and she married Walter M Steele Jr. They continued to support mission work in the US and in India. She is survived by her husband Walter, 2 step daughters Cheryl Pepin and family and Linda Hunt and family. She also leaves her younger sister Lois and her family and several nieces and nephews.
