With great sadness, we announce the passing of Vann Arlon Parrish, 55, of Jacksonville Beach, Florida. Vann was a dedicated outdoorsman with a deep love for surfing, hunting, and fishing—activities in which he truly excelled. His heart was always drawn to the ocean breeze, and he eagerly anticipated his retirement, though his journey was tragically cut short after a brave fight with cancer.
Known for his resilience, Vann kept his battle private, determined to overcome it. His loss leaves all who knew and loved him heartbroken. Vann’s generous spirit touched everyone he met. He was a devoted husband to Kristen, his high school sweetheart, with whom he reunited in 2014. Together, they embraced life to the fullest, splitting their time between a canal-front home filled with boating adventures and a cherished beach house where they planned to retire and enjoy the "salt life."
He is survived by his loving wife, Kristen Parrish; his son, Vann Parrish Jr.; and his parents, Nick and Susan Parrish. He also leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, Jimmy Opper, and his grandparents on both sides.
A celebration of his well-lived life will be announced in the near future. Vann’s memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He will be greatly missed.
Gone Fishin
I’ve finished life’s chores assigned to me, So put me on a boat headed out to sea.
Please send along my fishing pole For I’ve been invited to the fishin’ hole.
Where every day is a day to fish, To fill your heart with every wish.
Don’t worry, or feel sad for me, I’m fishin’ with the Master of the sea.
We will miss each other for awhile, But you will come and bring your smile.
That won’t be long you will see, Till we’re together you and me.
To all of those that think of me, Be happy as I go out to sea.
If others wonder why I’m missin’ Just tell ’em I’ve gone fishin’.
