Bonita (Bunni) Kristine Kelly (Waag) passed away on May 6, 2022 at the age of 75. Bunni was born on Nov 30, 1946, the first of seven children to Edith Sund Waag and John Berger Waag in Bremerton WA. She grew up in Poulsbo, WA. She graduated from North Kitsap High School in 1965 where she was honored to be elected cheerleader and homecoming queen. She enjoyed playing violin in the orchestra and singing with the “Northern Lights” sextet. After graduation she moved to Seattle to start working in the dental field.
Bunni met the love of her life, Mike Kelly, through a friend and they married in 1969. They had 3 daughters, Elise, Angela & Jaime. In 1971 they bought a home in the Maple Leaf neighborhood in Seattle and never moved.
From 1975 to 1999 Mike & Bunni started a business, Trace Athletic Corporation, producing protective padding for many sports. They even made knee pads for Billy the giraffe at Woodland Park Zoo.
Bunni enjoyed attending her children’s sports and loved cheering on her grandchildren at their sporting events. She took pleasure in gardening, genealogy, and music. She coached volleyball for 9 years at St. Catherine’s School.
She loved traveling to Italy, Norway, Ireland, Scotland, Hawaii, and a cruise to Alaska.
Having a caring family, amazing siblings, lifelong friends and God in her life filled her with joy.
Bunni is preceded in death by her parents John and Edith Waag, her nephew Aaron Waag and her brothers-in-law Rick Rice and Bob Smith.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Mike Kelly and her three daughters Elise Valentine (Jason), Angela Battle (Eric) and Jaime Kelly (Darren) and her grandchildren; Natasha Valentine, Brooke Valentine, Troy Valentine, Vynessa Valentine, Joanna Wells, Eric Battle Jr., and Benny Rose. Her siblings Andrea Bruns (Jim), Vergena Landry (Paul), Adele Smith, Aline Waag (Rick Smith), John Waag (Teri), and Bill Waag (Lisa), Geoff Morse (Linda) and her 11 nieces & nephews.
A Memorial Service for Bonita will be held:
