4th child of Theodore and Afroditi Mitalas. His sisters and brothers are Milton, George, Demetrios “Jimmy”, Anna, Evangelia, George II. Kosta had a rough start in life; living under German and Italian occupation followed by civil war. Thankfully the soldiers liked little Kosta and often gave him food when food was hard to find. His family home was destroyed by the Italians, and they were forced to move to neighboring city, Amfisa. At the end of the war, they were able to settle in Vinani where he eventually built his dream home.
Kosta went to school in Greece until age 16 and then completed his electrical apprenticeship before coming to the United States in 1960. After moving to the United States, he attended Edison Technical School to learn English. During the time he attended school he worked as a busboy at the Washington Athletic Club. In 1965 he joined the electrical union and worked as an electrician. He started his own company, Modern Electric, in the early 70’s.
In 1960 Kosta met Paula Hunt and they were married in 1962. They purchased a home in West Seattle and still live there today. They had 3 children: Maria, Andreas and Niko. Kosta and Paula celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on March 2, 2023.
The one thing that always made Kosta happy was spending time with his grandchildren: Adrianna, Constantine “Con”, Nicoletta, Anna, Constantinos “Dino”, Sofia and Constantinos “Kosta”. Whether going camping/fishing at Kalaloch, going to Greece together, watching the kids sporting events/performances or just sitting around the kitchen table you would always find him laughing with a huge smile on his face. He loved having them and their friends around the house.
Kosta is survived by Paula (wife), Maria (Anna and Dino), Andy (Irene, Adrianna, Con and Nikki), Niko (Sofia and Kosta), Jill Hyden, Thimios Sarantis and Yianni Cartharas (God Children), Evangelia and Anna (sisters), George (brother), several nieces, nephews, brother and sister-in-law, Koumbari and friends.
The world is a sadder place without our Kosta, baba and papou in our lives. But he touched each and every one of us and has left us with memories we will cherish forever.
