It is with a mix of profound sadness, gratitude and admiration for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Dorothy Elaine Seibert (NEE West), age 94, of Seattle, Washington. Dorothy was born on 19 September 1930 and passed away on 31 March 2025, surrounded by loving family members.
Dorothy was born in Los Angeles, California, but spent her formative years in British Columbia, Canada. She returned to the United States just prior to her 18th birthday and began dating family friend, Franklin (Frank) Seibert. The couple married on 29 April 1950 and went on to have four children, Gary Seibert (September), Carol Hansen (William), Diane Darling (Kelly) and Julie Seibert (Christopher Curtin), all of whom survive her. Dorothy is also survived by five grandchildren, Jennifer Geiger (Drew), Rachel Seibert, Stuart Darling (Allissa), Shannon Darling and Erica Miller (Wesley), along with two great-grandchildren, Carly Geiger and Emma Geiger.
Dorothy was ever-active and involved with her family and in her community. Her early income was derived from singing with a 1940s Big Band and on live radio spots. Prior to having children, she worked in the insurance industry. Dorothy left the workforce temporarily to raise her children, but continued to volunteer as a Cub Scouts Den Mother, a PTA President and a King County Election Official. As her kids grew, she began working part-time from home as an “Avon Lady,” which she enjoyed because it allowed her to make friends throughout the community. She eventually returned to the full-time workforce in 1975 as an entry-level clerk-typist for Lincoln National Life Insurance Company, but within a mere seven years’ time had risen to become one of two assistant managers for the expanding regional claims office, and a beloved supervisor to all who worked for her. Upon retiring in 1987, Dorothy returned to volunteering, participating in the Ballard/Swedish Hospital volunteer auxiliary, and administering the scholarship fund for medical students that the program supported. She was also an active member of the women’s organization, P.E.O. International.
Dorothy set an example for all who knew her with her adventurous spirit, joy for life, humor, kindness and resiliency. She loved to bring family together for celebrations, big and small. She made new and lasting friends with ease. She traveled the world and encountered new experiences with zeal and excitement. As the undeniable Matriarch of her family, she leaves them with a tremendous example of a life lived with love, joy and fearlessness, and many indelible memories.
Dorothy is predeceased by her husband, Frank, her brother, Myron West, her mother, Gertrude West (NEE Wicknick) and her father, Albert West.
In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in Dorothy's honor to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Heart Association.
