Mr. Edward Basoglu died peacefully on November 12, 2015, at home surrounded by his family. He was 83. He was born in Mardin, Turkey, and moved to Istanbul where he married the love of his life, Hanriyet Tecimer in 1958. Together they had two daughters, Jizel and Rozet. He started his career as a jeweler extraordinaire when he was 12 years old, and eventually opened a successful jewelry store in the Grand Bazaar. Ever a lover of the United States, he moved his family to Seattle in 1977. From 1980 until his retirement in 2001, he owned and operated Olympic Jewelry in downtown Seattle. His family and friends meant the world to him. He adored his four grandchildren. He was courageous, loving, and generous to a fault. He taught us what family means and how to live life to the fullest.
He is survived by Hanriyet, his wife of 57 years, daughters Jizel (Steve) Wanaka, of Seattle and Rozet (Alberto) Aroyo, of Istanbul, grandchildren Michael and Kyla Wanaka, Daniel and Michael Sezer, brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews. He will be greatly missed by each and every life he touched.
The family would like to thank Summit Cardiology at Northwest Hospital and the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance for their excellent care and service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, www.seattlecca.org or the American Heart Association, www.donate.heart.org.
