Erik went home to be with his Lord on August 29, 2019. He brought love and smiles from the day he was born on June 9, 1962 in Seattle, Washington. A lifelong Northwest resident, Erik graduated from Washington State University in 1986, and they have sadly lost their biggest fan. Erik had a long successful career with Farmers Insurance. He enjoyed golf, spending time with family and friends, rooting for the Seahawks, Mariners, Eastern Eagles, Everett Silvertips, Spokane Chiefs, Spokane Indians, and most of all cheering for his beloved Cougs. In 2005, Erik's kidneys failed and his sister Kristal lovingly gave him the gift of life. Thanks to her, we were blessed to have him in our lives for almost 15 years longer. Erik lost his eyesight in 2010 but kept smiling and enjoying life. He was an inspiration to all who knew him. An amazing example of how to live life to the fullest, he was an exceptional husband, father, son, brother and friend. Although he is gone too soon, he leaves us with a lifetime of love.
Erik is survived by his wife Tami, his children Erika Mitchell (Wiitala), Joshua Wiitala and Danielle Fowler (Wiitala), his grandchildren Jadeon and Autumn, his father Ray Wiitala, his sisters Kristal Wiitala, Sonja Springer (Wiitala), and Jennifer Charles (Wiitala) and is preceded in death by his mother June Wiitala. He also leaves behind his loving stepchildren Nathan and Krystal, as well as many nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held on October 5th at 4:00pm at Ballinger Lake Park in the Lakeview room, located at 23000 Lakeview Drive in Mountlake Terrace, Washington.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Washington State University Athletics. Go Cougs.
