Hanriyet Basoglu passed away on May 09, 2022 in Istanbul, Turkey. She was 82 years old. She was born in Mardin, Turkey and moved to Istanbul at age 12 with her family. She married the love of her life Edvar Basoglu in 1958. Together they had two daughters Jizel and Rozet. In 1977 the family moved to Seattle, WA. While her husband built a successful jewelry business (Olympic Jewelry), she built a wonderful home life. She loved cooking, sewing, visiting with friends and traveling. She was legendary in the kitchen. Her sense of fashion and hospitality made her an idol among many. Her family meant the world to her.
She is survived by daughters Jizel (Steve) Wanaka of Seattle and Rozet (Alberto) Aroyo of Istanbul, grandchildren Michael Wanaka, Kyla Rocchi, Daniel and Michael Sezer, great-granddaughter Isabel, and brothers , nieces and nephews.
The celebration of her life will be held at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 1240 NE 127th St, Seattle WA 98125 on Thursday May 19 th , 11am. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the food bank @ St Mary’s, www.thefbsm.org.
