Born as Joan Heather Beckett in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, on September 28, 1942, Heather was adopted by Joan Watt Moir and John Henry Britton Beckett. She was raised in Mossbank, Saskatchewan, where she formed lifelong friendships and a love for learning and community. Heather attended Luther College for high school, later studying at the University of Manitoba before earning her Registered Nursing degree from Misericordia Hospital in Winnipeg.
Heather met her only husband, William “Bill” Terry Nolder, in Seattle, Washington. They married in 1968 and shared eleven years together before Bill’s passing in 1979. Together they raised one daughter, Tracy Ann Nolder.
A dedicated professional, Heather spent many years as a nurse at the University of Washington before transitioning into a second career as a Medical Paralegal with the Lane Powell Law Firm. Her intelligence, compassion, and sense of humor made her a trusted colleague and friend.
Heather’s interests were wide-ranging and rich in creativity—she loved reading, drawing, painting, crocheting, solving crossword puzzles, eating out, shopping and attending the theater. A devoted viewer of local and national news was known for her spirited conversations and for always being curious, engaged, and outspoken.
Her two granddaughters, Fianna and Maisie McKee, were her greatest joy. She delighted in sharing her passions with them, her love of chocolate with Fianna and her fondness for butter with Maisie. Heather’s playful personality was reflected in her approach to dining out as she always checked the dessert menu first, then decided on dinner accordingly.
Heather was a well known “cat lady,” and her beloved cats—Spooky, Murphy, Vinnie, and Pearl—brought her endless companionship. She was active in her community through the Kirkland Senior Center, Red Hat Ladies, WICS, and many other groups. Her extensive circle of friends, spanning back to high school and nursing school, continued to be a source of connection and laughter throughout her life.
Heather was preceded in death by her parents, John and Joan Beckett; her husband, Bill Nolder; and her beloved cousin, Kelsey Anderson. She is survived by her daughter Tracy Nolder and husband Kevin McKee, and cherished granddaughters Fianna and Maisie McKee, brother Roger Beckett and sister in law Joyce Beckett, nephew Sean Beckett and niece Erin Beckett.
Heather will be remembered for her sharp wit, resilience, and boundless love she gave to her family, friends, and feline companions. Her legacy of spirited humor and feisty warmth will continue to bring smiles to those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Heather’s family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the compassionate caregivers and staff at Aegis Marymoor, KP Hospice, and Amada Senior Care for their exceptional support and kindness.
A private family service will be held in November, with a Celebration of Life planned for February 2026, open to all who knew and loved her.
