Joan left us on November 3, 2015 in Lynnwood, WA, exactly five months after losing her beloved husband Bud. Their 64th anniversary would have been June 30th, and together they spent their last decade dealing with Joan's debilitating dementia. Bud called Joan his "Beautiful Bride", and their special daily drives they took the last few years will be remembered and cherished by all of their family and friends.
Joan was born June 12, 1930 to Carl and Bea Jaquet. She grew up in the Laurelhurst area, and spent happy summers on Lake Washington and Suquamish. She graduated from Roosevelt High School, where she was the school's newspaper editor, and where she met her future husband. She went to WSU and the UW, where she received a Bachelor's Degree in Librarianship and was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority.
Joan was a very dedicated and loving mother and grandmother. She was always ready to go camping, or host a family dinner, and was a good sport about going on family ski trips. She had a gift for keeping family and friends connected, and was a catalyst for their M.O.O.F. Group, (Meeting Of Our Friends - old Roosevelt High School friends and college pals). Joan was the consummate hostess, planning many family get-togethers at their home in Kenmore and at the 'beach house' on Camano Island. She enjoyed traveling to visit her siblings, attend graduations, weddings, and celebrate holidays. Her love of adventure took them sailing on the Caribbean, on many trailer trips across the U.S., and up and down the Pacific coast. She was a member of the local Arrowhead Community Garden Club and always took pride in her beautiful garden. She was the smiling face at the front counter of Mutual Materials, working there for many years. She instilled a love of reading in all her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, and they all remember her favorite book, "Blueberries for Sal".
Joan is survived by her two sons and their families; Paul & Judy, grandchildren Kyle and Megan, and Bruce & Sue, grandchildren Kelly and Monique, her brothers John and Jim and their families, and many more family and relatives.
A celebration of Joan's life will be postponed until the family reunion in August 2016. In lieu of cards or flowers, the family requests donations are made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Burial arrangements have been entrusted to Acacia Memorial Park & Funeral Home.
