Born in Stockholm, Sweden and raised in Göteborg, Margit lived an active life with many adventures and achievements. From immigrating to America at age 35 and finishing her PhD, to working as a medical physicist at a hospital in Philadelphia, to opening a Bed and Breakfast in Maine later in life, Margit was always full of energy and enthusiasm.
Margit accomplished many things, but her true devotion and passion were reserved for God, Whom she loved with all her heart. Growing up Lutheran in Sweden, Margit attended a girls’ school and sang psalms very morning. As an adult, she knew most of them by heart and took her children to Swedish church services in Philadelphia, teaching them her gentle and loving approach to religion. After recognizing Bahá’u’lláh as the Promised One of all ages and becoming a Bahá’í at age 50, she lived to serve the principles of peace, oneness, and worldwide community. She served as a Bahá’í pioneer for five years in South Korea and then again for a year in Lithuania. She devotedly shared her faith with others up to her last days.
Margit leaves behind her two children, Mats and Anna, grandchildren Kristin, Richard, Julie, Gene, Marion, Daniel and Sarah, daughter-in-law Peggy, grandchildren-in-law Karim, Yechan and Keito, great-grandchildren Mira, Maximus and Malik, niece Moluise and nephew Fredrik, as well as many other relatives and friends, all of whom will miss her warm heart and loving spirit.
Margit’s life will be remembered and celebrated, and she will be laid to rest, on the 21st of July 2023 at 2 o’clock p.m. at Acacia Memorial Park and Funeral Home in Shoreline. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be webcast and recorded for viewing online.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to Old Dog Haven, Margit’s favorite animal rescue organization at https://olddoghaven.org/donate-now/. If you’re a Bahá’í please consider contributing to the Shrine of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá.
