Marilyn "Lynn" Yuriko Akita was born to parents Robert and Marilyn Tomuko (Tope) on August 25, 1948 in Chicago, Illinois. A short time later, the Akita family relocated to Washington, where, as the eldest of three siblings, Lynn would go on to attend Seattle's Garfield High School. Upon graduation, Lynn attended both the University of Washington and the University of Puget Sound, ultimately earning her Master's Degree in Spanish Language and Educational Administration. Her career ambitions led to a role with the Washington State Human Rights Commission, where her passion, commitment, and empathy allowed her to flourish as a valued employee of more than 30 years.
An avid explorer, Lynn's travels took her around the globe to such places as China, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Mexico, Russia, and Spain. Along the way, she became a human Rosetta Stone, developing fluency in five different languages: English, French, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish.
While Lynn accomplished so much throughout her 73 years, she will fondly be remembered by all who knew her for a cheerful personality and an enthusiastic positivity that never ceased to radiate. Even in the midst of her final days with friends and loved ones, Lynn exuded the happiness and selflessness that always defined her, ensuring all those in her vicinity felt as cared for as she did. On the evening of July 21st, 2022, Lynn passed peacefully following a day spent outdoors under sunny skies with family.
Lynn is survived by brothers Byron, Guy (Kathryn); nephews Alexander (Emily) and Cameron (Kelly); grand-niece Tori; aunts Nancy Motomatsu, Nancy Kasamoto, Karalee Rae; and numerous loving cousins and friends. Lynn is preceded in death by parents Robert and Tope, and sister-in-law Cosette.
Lynn and family would like to thank the staff of Davita Kidney Care, King County Metro Access Transportation, Kaiser Permanente Washington and Kaiser Permanente Hospice Care, Overlake Hospital, Lake Washington Vascular, and Providence Marianwood Issaquah for all their care.
Lynn's Haiku:
Lucky Lucky me.
I have all great memories!
Thank You family!
