Loving mother and grandmother Rosario Fernandez passed away on September 2, 2010 with her family surrounding her. She was born on April 12, 1932 in the Philippines. Rosario was the youngest of six children and spent most of her life in her home country. She raised her only son, Romeo, in Manila and she arrived to the States in 1983 to join her son and his wife, Fe. From then on, Rosario helped to raise her grandchildren, Liezl, Michael, and Gabriel. She was ‘Mommy’ to us all, even to neighborhood children for whom she babysat. Rosario possessed a strong Catholic faith and was an active parishioner at Our Lady of the Lake Church for many years. Industrious and independent, Rosario enjoyed cooking and caring for all visitors to our home, walking everywhere and having her grandchildren tag along on her adventures, crafting beauty through her gardening and sewing – and, above all, sharing her unbridled love. Rosario is survived by her son, Romeo Alcantara and daughter-in-law, Fe, her grandchildren, Liezl, Michael, and Gabriel, and nieces and nephews in the Seattle area, in California, in Maryland, and in the Philippines. The lives Rosario touched extend past family to dear friends and neighbors, near and far. We will all miss her dearly.
Viewing will take place at Acacia Funeral Home on Sunday, September 5th at 5pm with a rosary at 7pm. The funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Church (8900 35th Ave NE, Seattle 98115) on Tuesday, September 7th at 11am, followed by a reception. Committal and burial are planned for 2pm at Holyrood Catholic Cemetery (205 NE 205th St., Shoreline 98155).
