Seifert, Jr. - Henry “Scott” Brooks passed away peacefully on December 17, 2010 in Palm Springs, California. He was 90 years old. Mr. Seifert was a long time Seattle resident whose love for the Pacific Northwest and his community influenced many aspects of his life.
His sailing on the Canadian Pacific Princess Lines inspired a lifelong interest and passion for steamships, ocean liners and other historic watercraft. In addition to studying their histories, he enjoyed over 40 sailings on such notable ships as the RMS Queen Mary (including her final voyage from England to New York before her arrival at Long Beach Ca.), RMS Queen Elizabeth 1, Ile de France, S.S. Oriana and many others. Mr. Seifert was an effective force in the preservation and restoration of the steamship Virginia V and in 1972 he served as President of the Puget Sound Maritime Historical Society where he remained a member throughout his life. He maintained lifelong memberships with the Royal Victoria Yacht Club and many other maritime historical societies. With his long-time friend Monte Brown he co-captained their vessels The Gulfstreams I-V on lengthy voyages exploring the Canadian and Alaskan waterways.
Mr. Seifert’s distinguished voice led to a career in broadcasting which included program director at KOA Denver and KXA Seattle as well as news broadcaster for KING and KOMO Seattle. He was under contract with Paramount Studios during the 1940’s. Mr. Seifert was also an accomplished journalist with articles appearing in the Seattle Times, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, and ship society magazines such as The Sea Chest as well as the Daily Journal of Commerce where he was on staff. He specialized in articles on great ships as well as legitimate theatres, movie palaces and the performing arts. One feature article described the “Save the Fifth Avenue Theatre” movement; Mr. Seifert played an instrumental role in the ultimate success of this effort.
Mr. Seifert is survived by his life partner Dr. Frank Allan Sandin and his cousins Diana Taylor and Pauline Wessler and her son Kurt. Services, interment and reception are scheduled to begin at 10:00 am Thursday, December 30 at Acacia Memorial Park. Services will be preceded by a viewing at 9:30 am. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Shaw Island Museum and Library, c/o General Delivery, Shaw Island, WA. 98286.
