Shirley passed away peacefully March 29, 2017. “Shirley R” was born in Seattle to parents Fred G. and Ruth G. Olson on Sept. 16, 1929. She and her kid sister Beverly (Babs) grew up in Ballard next door to her future husband. She excelled throughout school and worked on both the Ballard HS paper (Talisman) & yearbook (Shingle). She & Babs shared many friends and good times. She learned typing & shorthand at BHS and upon graduation in 1948 became a secretary at American Mail Lines for several years.
Shirley married her soul-mate Robert (Bob) Wright (BHS 1942) in 1953. They had 3 children and were active in North End Bible church. They moved to Bothell in the late 60’s to provide a rural environment for their children. She devoted her time to raising her children and supporting their 4H, school, and church activities. After the kids moved out Bob & Shirley joined the RV community. She thrived walking through campgrounds & making new acquaintances. When Bob retired they traveled to the east coast, Montana, Yellowstone, Florida and California.
In 2005 they sold their home & moved to a retirement community in Redmond. There they explored local parks and took day trips to Wenatchee or Mt. Rainier. They enjoyed picnics in their front yard and made many friends.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 63 years, Bob Wright, and children Robin, Tim (Joann), and Jim (Karen). Her great loves were her family, outdoor activities, visiting with friends, and her Lord Jesus Christ. The family extends their gratitude to Corwin Center staff and Evergreen Hospice for taking the best care of our wife & mother.
A memorial service will be held at Emerald Heights, 10901 176th Circle NE, Redmond, WA, 98052 at 3:00 p.m. Sat., April 8. Remembrances may be made to the Snohomish Chapter of Child Evangelism Fellowship or Lighthouse for the Blind.
