Teh Ming Wang (1913 - 2020)

Teh Ming Wang passed away peacefully on the morning of Thursday, April 16, 2020 at the age of 106.

Teh Ming was born in a small farming village outside Shanghai in 1913. His childhood was filled with hardship, and at age 13, he left home to become an apprentice carpenter in the city to make ends meet.

During World War II, he met his wife, Wen An. He took her to the movies for their first date. With the rise of Communism and increasing political instability in China, they fled to Hong Kong together and eventually settled down in Taipei, Taiwan in 1948. There, Teh Ming built a successful career in the construction industry. His work building infrastructure for Taiwan even led to him meeting the First Lady of Taiwan, Madame Chiang Kai-Shek - one of the proudest moments of his career.

All the while, he and Wen An raised four children together. In 1989, after Teh Ming retired, they relocated to Seattle to be closer to their children, and while his work at construction sites was over, he happily turned to his favorite pastime, mahjong, to fill his days. Teh Ming also enjoyed spending his time making fresh noodles and dumplings for his family to enjoy, tending to his vegetable garden, and employing his carpentry skills to build toys and dollhouses that his grandchildren cherished. For his family, the memories made playing mahjong and sharing delicious family meals together that he and Wen An prepared will be treasured for a lifetime.

He is survived by his three children, Nancy, Wendy, and Andy, eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Teh Ming was a hardworking, generous and kind husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. We will miss him dearly. May he rest in peace.
