Joan V. Doering
12 September, 1934 – 13 November, 2021
Beloved mother of Susan (and Robert Harth), Sharon (and Kevin Cutola), and Stacy (and Doug Ferguson). Adoring grandmother to Kristina, Brian, Robert, Casey, Kelly, and Katelyn. Loved by great-grandchildren Jakob, Emma, Piper, and Maggie. Predeceased by the love of her life, husband Capt. William Doering, and parents Lillian (Lamp) and John Puth.
Joan lived life to the fullest! A life-long resident of Secaucus, she enjoyed helping out at her parents tavern, Johnny’s Bar and Grill (affectionately known to many as Tiger Lil’s). She married her childhood sweetheart, Billy, and built a house in Secaucus that would become her home for over 60 years, That home hosted scores of parties and their pool was always open to friends and family. Joan took great pride in decorating her home for the holidays and won several town awards for the best dressed home. She was sure to create wonderful memories and traditions, many of which her children continue with their own children and grandchildren. She enjoyed family vacations, especially cruises and camping, playing Pinochle, attending PBA dances, and most of all, being a wife, mom, grandma, and great-grandma.
After suffering a life-altering accident nearly thirty years ago, her strength, will, and determination were made evident and carried her through many health crises, all the while smiling and never complaining. She only saw the good in people and life. Everyone she knew was treated like family.
Joan was an animal lover. She raised Boxers and Wire-haired Terriers. Later, Max, Harley, and Gabby were her companions for many years. She also earned the label "Crazy Cat Lady" after welcoming family and stray kitties into her home and she also made sure to feed all the wild birds every day.
Joan was involved and participated in every aspect of her children’s and grandchildren’s lives. You would always find Joan proudly in attendance at events and she was the quintessential "fun mom" to her children and their friends.
She was, and will always be, loved dearly and deeply and will be sorely missed as the matriarch of the family. She lived a vibrant and full life abundant with joy and love.
A private visitation for Joan was held on Friday, November 19, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Mack Memorial Home, 1245 Paterson Plank Road, Secaucus, NJ 07094. Following the visitation there was a committal service from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at Flower Hill Cemetery, 5433 John F. Kennedy Blvd., North Bergen, NJ 07047.
