On February 2, 2026, Ramona Cloteal Montgomery Green peacefully transitioned at home in Palisades Park, New Jersey after a remarkable 97 years of life.
Ramona, affectionately known as “Nana” was born in Chicago, Illinois to the late Orzo and Agnes Hazel Montgomery. She was the first of five children. Roy Montgomery (deceased), Theresa Baker, Elmer “Pete” Montgomery (deceased), and Romola Ann Williams.
Ramona met the late William Henry Green, II of New York in her early 20’s, and they were married on September 16, 1951. Through this union they were blessed with eight children. William Green, III, Keith Green, Brian Green, Michele Green (deceased), Mark Green (deceased), David Green, Stanley Green, and Kevin Green.
Private and soft-spoken Ramona was an extraordinary mom and educator who retired from the New York City Department of Education. She was a devoted Catholic who faithfully attended and served many years at Saint Paul’s Church in New York City, New York. Immaculate Conception Church in Secaucus, New Jersey was her second house of worship after she relocated to New Jersey.
Ramona was the go-to person to nurture grief, harbored secrets and broaden a smile. Yet she was no push over. She had a sharp wit and commanded respect and you certainly didn’t want to be on her bad side. Beneath her strong exterior, however, beat a heart committed to making people feel welcome and special.
She loved her family and ventured to make each and every one feel an individualized sense of value. With all her vigorous endearment for her massive family she never forgot a name or birthday. Youthful and loved at first sight made her the envy of people who felt blessed to have met her. A true exhibition of beauty and grace.
Ramona leaves a legacy of memories to William Green, III (Analyn), Keith Green (Denise), Brian Green (Kim), David Green, Stanley Green (Yvonne), and Kevin Green (Melanie), 20-grands, 24-great grands, 2-great great grands, a host of Nephews, Nieces, Cousins and many friends.
A phenomenal woman, God sent a real angel among us that generously and simply loved. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to your Charity in her name.
