
Though Arlie was born in Tecumseh, his family moved to Shawnee as a young boy. He went on to graduate from Shawnee High School in 1950. After graduation, Arlie spent most of his life in Shawnee, working for Cowen Construction, United Builders and Eventually Garner Construction before retirement.
Arlie was an avid outdoorsman and liked to hunt and fish. He was a motorcycle enthusiast and raced in the AMA. He enjoyed being with his family, and his home was his favorite place. He loved tinkering in his garage, building and fixing things. He enjoyed bicycling and taking care of his yard. He especially loved his dogs.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 51 years, Kathy Abbott; children, Arlie Abbott of Norman, Lori Rehrig of Yukon, Ben Abbott and wife Penny of Sapulpa, and Monty Garner and wife Barbara of Shawnee; 12 grandchildren: 20 great grandchildren: a sister, Willa Dean Dickie and husband Lou of Louisville; and brother-in-law, Abel and wife Jona of Shawnee.
He was preceded in death by his parents Byrum and Alice Abbott; and sisters: Peggy Moore and Betty Laughlin.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at Dale Cemetery.
