

Boyd Wayne Baker was born in Weatherford, OK on May 11, 1935 to Richard Asbury Baker and Willie Lee (Heathcoat) Baker. He went home to Heaven to be rejoined with his beloved wife Syble, and his Lord on June 15, 2021. He passed peacefully holding the hands of his daughters and in the presence of his family.
In 1957, he married Syble LaRue Black. They were married almost 64 years, as of June 21st, and will soon celebrate a Heavenly Anniversary. They first settled in Oklahoma City, and later Choctaw for a few years before purchasing a farm in 1967 in Shawnee, where they raised their family. They lived there the rest of their lives.
He drove a truck for 15 years. He spent his retirement years farming and raising grandchildren. He raised wheat, milo, and alfalfa. There were plenty of farm animals also. He had a large hog operation for many years, as well as chickens quail, and rabbits.
After retirement, he designed and built a new home. With the help of the family, it was completed in 2007 and they moved in. He had a long and blessed life with lots of family and lots of precious memories. At the age of 86, he left this earth to be with Syble in Heaven.
He was preceded in death by both his parents, his wife Syble, 2 brothers - Roy Baker and Richard Baker, 4 sisters - Marylee, Willene, Lou and Glenna.
He is survived by 2 sisters, Jaurita Ann and husband Jack Voyles, and Carolyn Baker, 1 brother Billy and wife Doris Baker, 1 sister-in-law Darlene Baker, wife of his brother Richard.
He is also survived by his 5 children; daughter Jaurita Lee of Shawnee, his son Peyton W. “Sonny” Baker and wife Nancy of Shawnee. Son Byron Baker and wife Lynda of Seminole. Twin daughters and their husbands, Darlene and Dennis Nelms, and Sharlene and James “Bud” Jenks, all of Shawnee.
Several grandchildren, Nicholas Lee and wife Bethany, Brandon Lee and wife Amanda, James Baker, Dennis “Kary” Nelms and wife Heather. Kara Nelms and husband Robert Bloom, Curtis Abernathy, Brittany Abernathy, Sara Jade, Danielle, Nicole, Carl, Michael, Faydra and Jeremy and their families, and many nieces and nephews.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was an avid conservationist. Just ask the grandsons how many trees they’ve planted, it was hundreds. His favorites were pine, oak, and hickory trees. He instilled in his grandkids, a strong sense of wildlife preservation and developed many wildlife plots on his farm. He had a tremendous green-thumb. He had a large vegetable garden every year and made sure he taught each of his kids how to grow their own food. He was especially fond of his John Deere tractors. He was a lifetime NRA member, and supported many Sheriff’s campaigns over the years.
His Favorite Foods: Mexican, chicken fried steak, beans and cornbread, tomatoes and okra from the garden, Syble’s home-made dill pickles, and fresh strawberry pie, which was served on every birthday.
Favorite places to eat: Jimmie’s Egg, Santa Fe Cattle Co., and his all-time favorite, Cracker Barrel.
He enjoyed many backyard cookouts with the family around him, and many wiener roasts at the pond. He built radio-controlled model airplanes and hosted his flying club at his personal flying field. He was an accomplished musician and a guitar builder. He made handcrafted guitars in his shop for a few special clients. He passed his love of music and talent on to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
His legacy to his grandchildren was to instill in them a love of the land and wildlife. His desire was for the next generation to respect and nurture the land and all of God’s creations and preserve its awesome beauty
