She was born March 8, 1919 to Rudolph and Agnes Peterson. She graduated from Shawnee High School, in Shawnee, OK.
Years ago, Hazel worked as an elevator operator in one of the buildings in downtown Shawnee. At one time, she ran a dress shop in Laverne, OK. Her last job was as a Hospital Administrator in this same town. Hazel was an accomplished artist, but she said she never tried to sell any of her paintings. She spoke a lot about growing up in the Shawnee area. She and her sister used to go to Benson Park. She said back then there were rides like you’d see at a carnival, just a good place to be with your friends. She said her Dad bought an acreage so they could have a horse, and how he worked hard all his life so they could have a few things.
On August 25, 1940 Hazel married Pierce Garrison in Seminole, OK. They shared 67 years together. Upon retirement, Hazel and her husband Pierce resided at their home at Port Isabel, TX, where they spent years enjoying their favorite hobby, fishing.
Hazel lived in Shawnee for the past 29 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two siblings.
Hazel will be greatly missed.
Services will be at 10:00 AM, Thursday, March 3, 2011, at the Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery.
