Janie Carolyn DeVilbiss passed away surrounded by the love of her family, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, faith, creativity, and undeniable flair. She was born on December 1, 1945, in Dyersburg to James Willard More and Mary Ramona Simpson. Janie spent her early years attending elementary and middle school in Dyersburg, TN and in Lordsburg, NM. She attended high school in Lordsburg, NM before completing her senior year in Moore, OK. On May 20, 1966, she married the love of her life, Max Harold DeVilbiss, in Cotton City, New Mexico. Their marriage spanned 59 devoted years — a testament to enduring love, loyalty, and partnership. Throughout her life, Janie called many places home, living in Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, Tennessee, and Nevada before returning to Oklahoma on Christmas Day of 1993, where her heart ultimately settled. Janie lived life out loud. She adored Elvis Presley and could often be found listening to 50’s classic rock and classic country. Her favorite color was red — bold, vibrant, and impossible to ignore, much like her. A perfect day for Janie included shopping trips and nail appointments with her granddaughters, followed by a big family dinner and ending the evening with a movie surrounded by those she loved most. She was known for her playful spirit — she got a kick out of scaring people, telling raunchy jokes, pinching behinds, and showing unexpected kindness to strangers. Janie loved dramatic flair. She sparkled when she dressed up, and she sparkled in personality too. Yet above all the glitter and laughter, she loved her husband, children, and grandchildren more than anything in this world. A woman of deep and unwavering faith, Janie was a member of Grace Communion International and the Red Hat Society. She taught others how to live passionately, love fiercely, and trust God fully. Her faith shaped her life and guided her family. Janie was also a gifted creative soul. She wrote wonderful short stories, was a painter, had a drawing talent, and even had a poem published in the newspaper. Her artistic spirit reflected the color and emotion she carried within. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved daughter, Shelby Renee Martinez; her son-in-law, Miguel Jose Martinez; her brothers, Gary Moore and Larry Moore and his wife Leslie; her sister, Wanda Chambers and her husband Jim; and her brother-in-law, Ted Williams. She is survived by her devoted husband, Max Harold DeVilbiss; her children, Anthony Isaac DeVilbiss, Lenda Jone DeVilbiss, and Max James Jordan DeVilbiss; her siblings, Jimmy Moore and wife Sandy, Timmy Moore, Rosemary Williams, Brenda Doden and husband Edward, Judy Chronister and husband David, Cindy Harrison, and sister-in-law Carolyn Moore. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Jonie Martinez, Abraham Martinez, Moses Martinez, Chantal Diaw, Adrian Diaw, Kyuss DeVilbiss, Zoe DeVilbiss, Macy DeVilbiss, Jay Morgan, Mackenzie DeVilbiss, Maximus DeVilbiss, and Mathias DeVilbiss; 10 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; 15 nieces; 8 nephews; and her beloved fur baby, Tuffy. Janie would want to be remembered as she truly was — fun-loving, faith-filled, dramatic in the best way, and unapologetically passionate about life. She taught her family that love should be bold, laughter should be loud, and faith should be unwavering. Her sparkle does not fade; it simply shines from Heaven now.
