Carroll “Alan” Durbin, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and community leader, returned to his Heavenly Father on January 18, 2025, surrounded by love and cherished memories. Born on June 15, 1967, to the late Mary Louise Vittitow and Christopher Ambrose Durbin Sr. Alan entered this world as a beacon of light, his radiant smile leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.
A man of extraordinary talents and boundless generosity, Alan could fix anything he set his mind to. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to become the proud owner of RAD Security, serving the community through his work within IBEW Local 369. Beyond his professional success, Alan’s legacy was built on his dedication to faith, family, and service.
Alan shared 33 wonderful years of marriage with his devoted wife, Kimberly Joy Durbin. Their love story was a testament to enduring commitment. Together, they built a beautiful life centered on their three children: Craig (Emily), Alyssa Lindsey (Caleb), and Cole. Yet, Alan’s greatest pride and joy came from his role as “Papaw” to his grandchildren: Paislee, Oliver, Marley, and Jillianna. He leaves his siblings, Patricia Hellman (Tony), Charles Durbin (JoAnn) and Karen Hicks (Rudy). Mr. Durbin is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Christopher Ambrose Durbin Jr. and Sandra Jean Rhodes.
Deeply rooted in his community, Alan poured countless hours into mentoring and coaching young athletes in baseball, football, and basketball. His impact extended beyond the field, as he helped shape the lives of many young men into those of character and integrity. His involvement with GBCYFL left an enduring legacy, reflecting his unwavering commitment to bettering the lives of others. A man of deep faith, Alan was baptized as a child and recommitted his life to the Lord on Easter Sunday 2024 at Southeast Christian Church’s Bullitt County campus. His faith guided his actions and gave him strength in all facets of life.
Alan was a lover of life and the outdoors, finding joy in every season and element. Whether jumping into the ocean’s waves, walking in freshly fallen snow, or dancing in the rain, Alan embraced the beauty of nature with a youthful spirit. The beach was his sanctuary, often enjoyed with a margarita in hand and his signature smile lighting up the shore.
Alan will be forever remembered by his “wifeness,” children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family. To know Alan was to experience a rare and generous heart, a man who blessed every life he touched. His unwavering love, kindness, and zest for life leave behind a legacy that will endure for generations.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, January 23, 2025, in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy at Brooks Rd) with interment in Brookland Cemetery.
