Mr. Jerry Noel Burke, age 55, of Louisville, passed away on Wednesday, November 17, 2021. Mr. Burke was born in Louisville, KY on December 24, 1965 and he was a member of the Cedar Grove Congregation of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He was a dedicated teacher for Jefferson County Public Schools at Jeffersontown High School where he was a Welding and PLTW instructor to many students who loved him dearly. He was a proud member of Millwright Local #1076, the American Welding Society Section 048, the Honorable Order of the Kentucky Colonels, and played the saxophone for the University of Louisville Marching Band.
Jerry was devoted to his family, his work and his community. He worked tirelessly to ensure that everyone had equal access to opportunities within apprenticeship programs in Indiana and Kentucky, pioneering CTE program development in High Schools with the Kentucky TRACK Program, and leading development of SEAL programs in Indiana. His commitment to community was displayed by his dedication to programs like KentuckianaBuilds and groundbreaking partnerships with multiple recovery centers. He left his mark on this world in the many lives he changed through his caring and understanding. He has left a huge void in the hearts and lives of those he loved and who loved him.
His mother, Norma Eileen Wicker preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 31 years, Cathy “Cat” L. Burke; his twins, Derek Burke and Jessica Burke Duvall (Austin); son, Kevin Burke (Katie); his sweet grandchildren, Braxton and Hailey; father and stepmother, James E. Burke (Julie); parent-in-law, Ronnie and Fay Bond; his twin brother, Jamie Burke (Sheena); sisters, Susan O’ Neal (Mike) and Anastasia Lohnes (Jeff); and a host of extended family including nieces, nephews and cousins and he leaves innumerable cherished friends.
Funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm on Monday, November 22, 2021 in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy. at Brooks Rd.) with entombment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Friends and family may pay their respects on Sunday from 12:00 pm until 8:00 pm and on Monday from 10:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 pm at the funeral home.
