

Joseph Eugene Laswell, age 73, of Shepherdsville, Kentucky, returned to his Heavenly Father on February 10, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.Born in Louisville on July 9, 1952, Joseph was the son of the late Elmer Eugene Laswell and Mary Elizabeth (Maraman) Ray.
Joseph dedicated more than 30 years of service to the Ford Motor Company LAP before retiring. He proudly served in the National Guard and graduated from Shepherdsville High School. For over 20 years, he served with the American Red Cross Disaster Services, many of those years as a board member for the Louisville Area Chapter, where he played a vital role in supporting families and communities during times of crisis.
A Mason of McNeil Lodge in Lebanon Junction, Joseph also made a lasting impact as a community leader. His commitment to public service included roles as Bullitt County Magistrate, Police Chief of Pioneer Village, Mayor of Fox Chase, and involvement in county management. He believed deeply in serving others and worked tirelessly to strengthen his community.
Joseph was also a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church.
He enjoyed life’s simple pleasures—time spent at Lake Cumberland, relaxing by the firepit sharing stories and laughter, or cruising to the state dock for ice cream. He also cherished the quiet moments spent deer hunting across Kentucky, especially in his favorite spots.
Above all, Joseph was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, and friend. His kindness, dedication, and humor touched countless lives, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Joseph leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 52 years, Charlotte Laswell; his son Jeremy Laswell; his daughter Jess Laswell (Amy Haines); his brother Steve Laswell (Ramona); as well as nieces, nephews, and numerous other dear family members and friends.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 15, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Schoppenhorst, Underwood & Brooks Funeral Home (4895 N. Preston Highway at John Harper Freeway).
Funeral Mass will take place on Monday, February 16, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church (187 S. Plum Street, Shepherdsville, KY 40165).
Burial will follow at Brookland Cemetery.
