Joyce Ann Sims

Mrs. Joyce Ann Sims, age 85, of Shepherdsville, Ky passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 15, 2025, with her family by her side. She was born in Louisville, Kentucky on August 16, 1939, to the late Henry Hammond and Catherine (Skees) Hammond. Joyce was a loving and devoted wife and mother and Mamaw. She worked for 27 years at Minors Lane Elementary School as a cafeteria worker, a former member at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hillview, she enjoyed gardening her rose bushes, enjoyed spending time with her family sitting on the back porch swinging, and she loved her fur baby “Sassy”. Joyce will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, late husband Charles E. Sims, Sr. sons Charles E. Sims Jr., Richard L. Sims Sr., Michael W. Sims, daughter Janet C. Massey, grandson Christopher D. Massey, 1 sister, 1 brother.   

She is survived by her grandson Richard L. Sims Jr. (Tiffanie), granddaughter Karen Lewis (Todd), Angela Prince (Rusty), Dustin Sims, Jenna Braden (Steven), Tabitha Sims, Dillon Sims, 9 great-grandchildren, 2 great great-grandchildren, 2 sisters Thelma Hilton, Nancy Cruse, 1 brother Larry Hammond (Tammy), along with a host of nieces, nephews, and other dear family and friends.

A Funeral service will be held on Friday, March 21, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Rita Catholic Church 8709 Preston Highway, Louisville, Ky 40219. Burial to follow in St. Michaels Cemetery. The visitation will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Schoppenhorst Underwood & Brooks Funeral Home (4895 N. Preston Hwy, at John Harper Freeway).
