Our family has lost its heart...Phyllis Ann (Goodin) Eddy, age79, of Pioneer Village, Kentucky, passed away on April 8, 2026, after a hard-fought and courageous battle will illness. Born October 11, 1946, in Whitley County, Kentucky to Alonzo and Evelyn (Smith) Goodin. She often spoke fondly of her childhood in rural Appalachia. Her humble but strong family-oriented beginnings would shape her life and the lives of those she touched.
Phyllis met a young, enlisted man on leave with a friend at Christmas in 1963. Before the weekend was over, they were holding hands and shopping for a tree. Phyllis and Glenn married in 1965. They went on to raise a family while being stationed all over the country and overseas. They were often separated by his tours during the war, and post service employment, but they persevered and were married for 51 years until his passing in 2016.
Phyllis was a social worker by heart and career. She graduated from the University of Louisville in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science in Sociology. She was employed with the Cabinet for Health and Family Services as an ongoing service social worker at the South-Central Neighborhood Place site until her retirement in 2014. She loved her work with families and the lifelong friendships she made on her team. Her compassion and desire to help others was endless.
Family meant everything to Phyllis. She raised two children of her own, Desirea and William, but also opened her home and heart to other kids when they needed it. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She could be seen on the sideline at every school event, game or life achievement. She kept a place in her family room to display all their trophies, awards, and achievements.
It was not just family and friends that were close to her heart; her sweetest companion was her little dog, Curly. She loved feeding the birds and squirrels in her neighborhood. She raised a garden and canned produce and jellies. This was a skill she passed down to family. She was an avid baker and was always sending you home with a goody bag. She was always present and supportive to those lucky to be part of her life, and her loss is devastating to those who loved her.
Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Desirea Rhodes and son, William “Willie” Eddy; her grandsons, Jesse Rhodes, Shane Rhodes and granddaughter-in-law, Breanna Ward; her grandchildren, JD and Brittany Staats, great grandchildren Peyton, Leland and Chase Staats; her nieces, Tanya Pemberton and Michelle Wilbers (Scott); her grandniece, Aimee Wilbers and grandnephew, Aaron Wilbers.
She was preceded in death by her parents: father, Alonzo Goodin, her dad, Jesse McHargue and her mother Evelyn (Smith) McHargue; her husband Willie Glenn Eddy; and her sister Betty Pemberton.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, April 26th 1-4pm at Schoppenhorst Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home, 4895 North Preston Highway, Shepherdsville, Kentucky.
There will be a family interment service at a later date when she is laid to rest with Glenn at the Ft. Knox Veteran's Cemetery. Phyllis leaves a legacy of love and commitment to her family, friends, and community. Her loss is felt deeply.
