

Richard Leo Thurman, a devoted father, loving grandfather, and cherished son, returned to his Heavenly Father on Monday June 3rd, 2024 at the age of 66. He was born on August 30th, 1957 to the late Irvine “Gene” Eugene Thurman and Mary Carpenter Thurman. His life was a testament to hard work, and dedication, revolving around his beloved daughter and adored grandchildren.
A true cowboy at heart, Rick found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He had a passion for guns, fishing, music and, westerns. He could often be found enjoying a classic film, embodying the spirit of the characters he admired with his own brand of rugged charm and humor. A spirit that he carried with him through his many years of ensuring justice in grocery management by chasing down shoplifters.
Known for his quick wit and ever-present one-liners, Rick had a way of bringing laughter to the room. His unique humor was a gift he generously shared, bringing joy and light to everyone he encountered. His clever remarks will be fondly remembered by all who knew him or anyone that ever had the pleasure of being his server.
Above all, Rick was a family man. His daughter was the center of his universe, and his grandchildren were his pride and joy. He was their biggest supporter, always present at every milestone, offering unwavering love and encouragement always putting their happiness and well-being above all else. His legacy is a family bound by the same love and laughter he so freely gave.
Leaving to cherish his memory are his loving mother Mary Thurman, cherished daughter Heather Weber (Josh) his adored grandchildren Justin Spears, Carsynn Spears, Mason Weber, Gentry Weber; treasured great-granddaughter Marlow Spears; four sisters, Patty Thurman, Tina Bryant, Theresa Mascolo (Carlos), Sherri Edmonson (Bill), and several nieces and nephews.
As we say goodbye to Rick, we remember a man who leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. His spirit will live on through his daughter, grandchildren, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Funeral service will be conducted at 10 am on Monday, June 10, 2024, in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Highway at Brooks Road) with burial to follow in the Hebron Cemetery. Family and friends may pay their respects on Sunday, June 9, 2024, from 3-8 pm and Monday from 9 am until time of service at the funeral home.
