I have only happy, wonderful memories of Mr. Smith.  Not only was he brave enough to take on a bunch of teenage kids to teach chemistry and physics, he did so with compassion, honesty, and so much humor.  He always gently nudged you toward the right path but still let you find it on your own.  I am fortunate that Mr. Smith continued to provide that same kind and self assured guidance to me several times during my early career.  I will never forget him and the genuine concern he had for all of his students long after we graduated.  Thank you, Mr. Smith.  I will remember you always.

Mr. Smith, I was hopeless at chemistry. You had every right to fail me, but you let me do extra credit and passed me with a C. I will never forget you. Thanks for being an understanding teacher.

Mr. Smith was my advanced biology teacher 1979-80 at Bullitt Central.  He was my favorite teacher out of all 3 years there.  His sense of humor endeared him to all of us, as well as being a great teacher.   I am brokenhearted to hear of his passing and I send prayers to all the family.

So sorry to hear of my classmate's passing !!! I went to Hindman High School and Morehead State University with Rodney. Praying the Lord Jesus Christ watches over and comforts his family and loved ones !!!

Mr. Smith was a great teacher and an even better person. He helped me through a difficult time, taught me to be curious, and sparked my interests in science and technology.

I've known Rodney Smith since 1967 when we were both students at Morehead State University working on degrees in biology.  I remember times when we were working in a biology lab on a dissection specimen, then going to dinner afterwards smelling like the preservative used on our specimens.  After graduation, we kept up with one another occasionally, even though we lived in different cities.  And, as fate would have it, we ended up teaching biology at the same high school for a good number of years before retiring.  After retirement, I would keep up with Rodney through email and occasional phone calls, and sometimes stop by his house at times when I lived closer and would be in the area.  He would update me with the latest news of former colleagues from college and from our high school days of teaching.  Sadly, I did not keep up with Rodney in more recent times due to our different lifestyles, and due to me moving farther away from Shepherdsville and keeping up with another teaching assignment.  I will always have good memories of time spent with Rodney, and I can say that my life has been blessed having known a kind, gentle soul that he was!  Rest In Peace, my friend!

Rodney was a kind, gentle man with a sweet sense of humor.  I was fortunate to have him as a friend and coworker for many years.  My heartfelt sympathy to his family, who he adored.

As I have told him before: "Rodney you're the best male friend I've ever had! "  A true statement from someone who was proud to have had hiim as a friend for years. I will always remember him as such. May you rest in peace.

Rodney and I were classmates and friends at Larkslane Elementary and Hindman High School. I always appreciated his intelligence and quiet assurance. May he rest in peace.

Mr. Smith was my Biology 1 and 2 teacher. I learned a lot from him.  As a cat lover, I refused to dissect the cat.  He cared enough to pair me with someone who was willing to do the dirty work. I know that I tried his patience. R.I.P. Mr. Smith.

I remember thinking it was so cool that one of the teachers where I went to school was my cousin. Rodney was always ready with a kind word. Prayers and condolences to all.

Had Mr. Smith for 10th grade biology. Loved it so much I took a semester over again my senior year. Mr. Smith was knowledgeable and carrying teacher. I really respected him. He will be missed.

Steve and I were young couples with Rodney and Carol. We used to have so much fun with them and other young couples. My babies are now 44 and 41. So long ago, but wonderful memories. Steve and I moved away and lost touch with our Hebron Lane friends. Steve passed away in 2012 from a long difficult life with Multiple Sclerosis.  Now he and Rodney can be young and healthy again. Carol, may God bless you and your children and families.

Rodney Smith was one of my favorite teachers. Always kind and encouraging. Sincere sympathy for his loved ones.
