Vernon Thaxton Lewis, Jr.

Mr. Vernon Thaxton Lewis, Jr., age 81, of Louisville, Kentucky returned to his Heavenly Father on Sunday, December 31, 2023. He was born on December 20, 1942 to the late Vernon Thaxton, Sr. and Martha (Rogers) Lewis in Taylorsville, Kentucky. Mr. Lewis retired as a painter where he was self-employed. He was a Charter Member of the Rubbies Bar and Grill. He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Emma Lou and Doris.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 62 years, Shirley Lewis; daughter, Karen Bruner (Rodney); sons, Vernon Darren Lewis (girlfriend, Nikki Estes), Rocky Lewis (Kelley); grandchildren, Jason Bruner (Samantha); Darrian Lewis, Ashley Lewis; step grandchildren, Grant Dodson, Meredith Dunnavan; great grandchildren, Jordan, Landen, Laila Bruner; and siblings, Joann, Brenda and Darlene.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, January 5, 2024 at 6:00 pm in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy at Brooks Rd) with cremation to follow. Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday from 2:00 pm until the time of service at 6:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy can be made to the funeral home to assist in funeral expenses.
