

After a long battle with cancer, Alan Christopher “Chris” Hutcherson died peacefully in his sleep on December 23, 2020 at his home in Loganville, GA at the age of 56. When diagnosed with Squamous skin cancer in 2015, Chris continued to be dedicated to his work and family, and in his will to fight his illness. He remained a brave, iron-willed man, who always placed the needs of others above his needs, even throughout his final months. Many people say his smile exuded the joy he felt for life.
Chris was born on July 16, 1964 in Atlanta. GA, a true Grady baby, to parents Tommie and Isabell Hutcherson. He grew up in a large, loving family consisting of the Hutcherson, Watson and Brown families.
Upon graduating Brown High School in 1982, Chris enlisted in the Air Force where he became a sergeant. His true calling was in law enforcement. Chris, who was also known as “Hutch” or “LT” by his peers, worked for the Gwinnett County Police Department for over 29 years. During this time, he was a dedicated member of the Special Weapons and Tactics team for over a decade and was the “first man in”. He also worked in several specialized units such as Special Operations, Motors and was the Central Precinct Commander as a Lieutenant before retiring in 2018. Chris has been called a consummate professional by the Gwinnett County Deputy Chief Pat Cronin and has been bestowed the Medal of Valor, Purple Heart, and State of Georgia Honorable Service award for his dedication to serve the community. His love of work was second only to the love he had for his wife and family.
Loved ones that will be reunited with Chris are his mother Isabell Hutcherson, his father Tommie Hutcherson, his nephew Greg Brown and father-in-law Bruce Grove. Loved ones that will fondly remember Chris until they meet again are his wife Kim Thackston; sons Chris and Corey Hutcherson; sister Annabel Brown; brothers Jamie Hutcherson, Mark Hutcherson and wife Clara; grandsons Camron, Adonis, Levi, and Malik; step-daughters Tess Thackston and Indira Kiimada Woodard; mother-in-law Dianne Grove; brother-in-law Chris Grove and wife Yeroltma; his 6 nieces and 4 nephews; 6 great nieces and 4 great nephews; and his beloved four legged fur baby Holiday Hutcherson.
