Rose Galecki was born May 21, 1920, and passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Jan 12, 2020. She was 99 years old. She was the second child of Joe and Anna Yarosh, Ukrainian immigrants. Her parents loved the United States so much that the children spoke English growing up in Chicago. When Rose finished high school, she worked in an office.
She met Chester Galecki, a soldier friend of her brother-in-law. They married in 1943 and moved to California, where Chester was stationed. Rose returned to Chicago to give birth to their only child, Larry. She was a stay at home mom and an excellent cook, learning many Ukrainian and Polish dishes from her mother. These she passed on to her family. In 1978, Rose and Chester moved to the Atlanta area, to be close to their family. Rose and Chester lived independently in Decatur, Norcross and then Lilburn. In 2009, they moved in with Larry and Jean and then moved to Brookside Senior Living in Stone Mountain, in September of 2010.
Rose was preceded in death by Chester on August 7, 2012, ending their 68 yearlong love story. Her mother and father, Joe and Anna Yarosh, her sisters, Helen Baker and Marie Sharka and brother, Joe Yarosh all preceded her.
She is survived by her son, Larry and daughter-in-law, Jean, granddaughter Laura (Mike) Karpovage, granddaughter, Lisa Stanley, great granddaughter, Grayson Stanley, great-grandson, Evan Stanley, and Jake and Alex Karpovage, sister-in-law, Violeta Yarosh and many devoted nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews around the country.
