

Alfred R. Mala, 79, of Southington, formerly of Naugatuck, passed away, surrounded by his family on Monday, Dec. 16, 2013 at Alzheimer’s Resource Center. He was the loving husband of Jacqueline (Stinson) Mala, for the past 57 years.
He was born in Murtosa, Portugal, the son of the late Joaquim and Maria Carinha Mala. Alfred was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War. Prior to his retirement he was employed by several plumbing and steamfitting contractors in CT. He was a member of the Naugatuck Elks Lodge # 967, the Portuguese Club of Naugatuck and the K of C of Naugatuck 3rd degree. Alfred was an avid soccer player with several teams in the tri-state area and he loved to golf with his friends.
In addition to his wife he is survived by 2 sons, Michael A. Mala and wife Nancy of Southington, Gary S. Mala and wife Sheryl of Farmington, 4 grandchildren, Christopher, Katherine, Alicia, Alayna and 2 step grandchildren Philip and Lauren Serafino. He also leaves 2 sisters Caroline Pereira of Naugatuck and Mary Celina Santos of Middlebury and several nephews a niece and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 20th at 9:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. to St. Aloysius Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be with military honors at St. James Cemetery in Naugatuck. Calling hours will be on Thursday from 5-8 pm.
