Joseph Andrew "Andy" Celella, 35, died on June 10, 2023 after a 4-year battle with brain cancer with Multiple Glioblastoma recurrences. Andy was born on August 4, 1987 in New Haven, CT. He was the son of Scott and Carol Ann (Bradburn) Celella. He graduated from Cheshire High School in 2006 and earned his undergraduate degree in Health Sciences at Northeastern University in Boston in 2010. He moved back to Cheshire and married his high school sweetheart, Caitlin (Seadale) Celella. Andy devoted his life to the service of others in the medical field. Upon his return to Cheshire, he completed his graduate education at the Yale School of Nursing, earning a master’s degree in Acute/Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner in 2015. Throughout his eclectic career, he had many jobs; he started as an EMT in Waterbury, CT, moving to ER technician at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, an OR technician at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, phlebotomist at Yale New Haven Hospital, a nurse at the Yale Health Plan, and culminating as an APRN Hospitalist at Bristol Hospital and then Midstate Medical Center. He was a talented and caring practitioner, often drawing explanatory diagrams to help patients understand their condition, and always making sure to update patients' families. A self-described "Renaissance Man," Andy had a variety of hobbies which appealed to his inquisitive nature and his talents. He was an Eagle Scout. An active runner, he ran three marathons: the Hartford Marathon in 2009, the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, DC in 2010, and the Memorial Day Marathon in the Berkshires, MA in 2012. He was an avid beer home brewer and loved to cook and entertain guests. He loved traveling and had visited many countries abroad and almost every U.S. state. A classically trained singer, Andy spent many years singing with the Yale Camerata and had performed at Carnegie Hall. An amateur carpenter, he and his family completed many additions to his house and to others'. As an outdoorsman, regardless of weather or his declining health, he loved nothing more than taking long hikes in the woods, especially around Roaring Brook and the Blue Quinnipiac Trail. He loved to laugh and poke fun at the curious nature of sickness, life, death, religion, and God, yet was devoted to his faith and church. Most of all, he loved his family. He and his wife, Caitlin, started dating in 2004 and married in 2011, having over 300 attendees at their wedding as a testament to their love and kindness. His two boys, Ralph Charles and Vincent Benjamin, were the light of his life. He is survived by his wife, Caitlin (Seadale) Celella, his sons, Ralphie and Vinny, his parents, Scott and Carol Ann (Bradburn) Celella of Cheshire, CT, his brother, Chris and his family, of Batesville, Virginia, his uncle, Kevin Celella, and his grandmother, Elvira Celella, of Cheshire, CT. He is also missed by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, acquaintances, patients, and everyone whom his life touched.
