Carol Jean (Lewis) Diorio, passed away peacefully at home on January 6th, surrounded by family after a valiant battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of Charles Diorio. Born in Derby on August 4, 1948 to the late Angelina (DeAngelis) Lewis and John Gerald Lewis, Carol attended local schools and graduated from Southbury High School and Post College.
Carol began her lifelong secretarial career at the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas, she returned to Connecticut and worked as an executive administrative assistant for Uniroyal Corporation, and then IBM from which she retired. Carol and Charlie met in 1988, and their beautiful love story began. They married in 1992. Together they enjoyed traveling, romantic dinners and any time spent with family and friends.
When Carol married Charlie, she inherited all of the Diorio’s, and opened her home to them to continue the Thursday night dinner tradition. Carol was the epitome of elegance, dignity and grace. She was an inspiration to all of us and will be dearly missed by all that loved her.
In addition to her husband Charles, Carol is survived by her sister Mary Ann Kozey, her niece Shelly A. Smith, her brothers and sisters-in-law: Gene (Sarah) Diorio, Ron (Joanne) Diorio, sister in law Madeline (Jim) Rinaldi, many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews and even a great great niece and nephew.
There are also countless friends and colleagues. Each of you held a special place in her heart. She spent these last month’s sharing many wonderful and colorful stories. Some favorite memories include her valued friendship with the Ashelford sisters and their summers at the cottage in Milford, her Las Vegas days, sailing, visiting Sue and Heathe in Carmel, California with Charlie, and lunches with the valley girls.
Carol’s family cannot express enough gratitude to Dr. Sabbath, Dr. Menderes and their caring staff. Finally to Carol and Charlie’s caregivers, Becca, Alex, and Scarlette, who have become like family.
